AMONG THE WORLD’S MOST PRIZED freshwater game fish, trout
and salmon rank as the finest of them all. Trout are the main attraction for anglers visiting Chile; they are found in many streams as far North
as our borders with Peru and Bolivia. Most waters in the central area
of the country have good populations of trout as in the south, the legendary “Lake Region” with the most beautiful rivers imaginable. Continuing to the end of the country, south of the Magellan Strait
in Tierra del Fuego, we find other excellent fisheries.
The species that provide quality fly fishing in the fresh waters of Chile,
in descending order of importance and quality, are all salmonoids: Brown trout (Salmo trutta fario). Rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss). Sea run brown trout (Salmo trutta trutta). Brook trout (Salvelinus fontinalis). Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar salar). Coho
or Silver salmon (Oncorhynchus kisutch). Chinook or King salmon (Oncorhynchus tschawytscha).
We encourage catch and release of all trout caught; a good method of enjoying the sport as well as preserving this valuable resource for future generations. Admire Chile, one of the most beautiful countries on earth; protect our wildlife and our natural resources. Respect our fishing regulations.
